Scholarship Info

The undergraduate scholarship intends to benefit Malaysian students from low-income families, the Foundation believes that providing scholarships is about providing opportunities – giving a chance for students to have the higher education necessary to come into their own and be the next generation of leaders and captains of industries. 
To ensure success in this current social and economic environment where a degree does not often equate with employment or an ability to be entrepreneurs, we have also set up the following for our scholarship programmes:

Enrichment Programmes that provide additional life skills to our scholars. These programmes are aimed to instil motivation, confidence, self-belief and our Group Values to ensure that our Hong Leong Scholars are that much more competitive in the working world;

Structured Internship Programmes with Group companies. Internships are deemed critical by educational institutions and prospective employers in ensuring that students graduate into the workforce with sufficient knowledge and relevant experience; and

Scholars’ Club which aims to provide the scholars with continuous support throughout (and after) their studies. Various activities are being planned to ensure constant engagement with the scholars.

  • Undergraduate studies in Public Universities: RM 8,500/= p.a.
  • Diploma/Advanced Diploma courses in Public Universities: RM 6,000/= p.a.
  • Undergraduate studies at local private universities: up to RM 24,000/= p.a.
  • (“3+0” degree programmes on full-time and on-campus basis)Medicine/Dentistry courses in local Private Universities: up to RM 32,000/= p.a

Preferred Discipline

The scholarship is awarded for ANY course or field of study as long as it is a full-time Undergraduate Studies (1st degree course) or Diploma Course at recognised public and private universities and colleges in Malaysia. Those pursuing STPM, A-Levels, Matriculation, Foundation, Pre-U, and equivalent courses are not eligible.

The programme is intended to reach out to deserving Malaysians who are in need of financial aid to pursue their education.

+Criteria

Applicant must meet all the below requirements
The scholarship will be offered on a yearly basis to a maximum of twenty successful applicants, to undertake up to four years of undergraduate studies locally. This notice of offer for the scholarship is open for applications from all Malaysian students in need of funding. Students who have started their undergraduate studies are also eligible to apply provided they meet the requirements.
  • You must be a Malaysian citizen under 25 years of age (as of 1 January 2019) and be a full time student;
  • You must have good academic results in SPM (minimum 5As with credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English) /STPM or A-Level equivalent (minimum 2As). In the absence of STPM or A-Levels, the applicant should possess Pre-University entrance examinations (such as foundation, matriculation, or diploma) with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (“CGPA”) of 3.50 and above.
  • You  must be a full-time student and have gained admission into any of the courses related to the field of studies listed here, which has been approved and accredited by Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN), in a college or university in Malaysia as approved by PIDM;
  • Not be in a position to take on the course without financial aid or award;
  • Not be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation;
  • Not have been terminated from or ceased to be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation, due to disciplinary action against the applicant;
  • Applications will only be considered if they meet the eligibility criteria; the specific field of study and the list of colleges and universities as approved by PIDM.
  • A requirement to provide information on income for the applicant and/or parent(s);
  • The offer of scholarship will be subject to acceptance of the terms and conditions of a scholarship agreement with PIDM.
  • Recipients of the scholarship award will be required to fulfil conditions as set out in the scholarship agreement including, but not limited to, maintaining a minimum ‘Cumulative Grade Point Average’ (CGPA) of 3.00 or achieve a minimum of ‘Second Class Upper’ in the final examinations.

PIDM may discontinue the scholarship or any part of the scholarship, at any time should the recipient of the scholarship:
  • be unable to continue his or her studies, for whatever reason;
  • fail to achieve a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 in any semester;
  • fail to maintain conduct which is consistent with the rules and regulations specified by the college or university and is placed on probation; or
  • is in breach of any of the terms and conditions of the PIDM scholarship agreement

+Amount

  • Up to RM10,000 a year in course fees or the actual cost, whichever is lower;
  • Up to RM2,000 in allowances for learning aids including books, computer, stationeries and other materials per semester or up to RM4,000 per year;
  • Up to a maximum of RM6,000 allowance per year or RM500 per month;
  • There will be no bond to this scholarship and the recipients are not required to repay the amount of scholarship awarded.
Induction Programme
  • An induction programme will be provided to all recipients of the PIDM Scholarship Award. This is to ensure the recipients understand the mandate, vision, mission and values of PIDM.
Mentoring and Coaching
  • Each recipient will be assigned a “mentor” from the Senior Management team. The mentor will provide consistent and continuous mentoring and coaching throughout the programme. This is to ensure that the recipients have the necessary support and are able to leverage on the experience of our management team.
Internship Programme
  • As part of the strategic design of the programme, graduates will be offered paid six-month internship opportunities in PIDM to apply what they have learned in an operational context (subject to a minimum ‘Cumulative Grade Point Average’ (CGPA) of 3.00 or a minimum of ‘Second Class Upper’ in the final examinations).

1. APPLICANT’S ELIGIBILITY

* Is open to the poor and underprivileged Malaysians regardless of race, religion & ethnicity.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY at local Public OR Private Higher Education Institutions and Training Institute recognized by the Government of Malaysia.
* Only fields of studies which are recognized by the Public Services Department (JPA) / Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) / Malaysian Vocational Training Council (NVTC) / Government Agencies (Malaysia) concerned and acknowledged by the Board of Trustees of YBR.

2. FIELD OF STUDY

*Open to all fields of study. except for Medical and Aviation (License) courses.
* Priority is given to the following fields of study:

+ SKILL DIPLOMA

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Should at least have attained OR currently holding level 2 OR – other Skill Certificate need at least a passed in their SPM (with 2 Credits and Bahasa Malaysia subject) OR applicant must obtained Skill Certificate with a minimum of CGPA 2.75 and above.
* Duration of study 3 years.
* Total Funding : Up to RM30,000 for 3 years [RM400/Monthly+Fee].

+ DIPLOMA

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicant must have SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) qualification with a minimum grade of 5A.
* Duration of study 3 years / 6 Semester.
* Total Funding : Maximum of RM7, 500 anually (UiTM & Politeknik only RM5, 000) [Fee+Allowance].

+ DEGREE

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicant must hold a Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or Matriculation with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a Jayyid Jiddan or Mumtaz qualification that is equivalent to STPM.
* Duration of study 4 years / 8 Semester.

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicants must hold a Diploma OR Degree with CGPA 3.0 and above.
* Duration of study 2 Years / 4 Semester.
* Total Funding : Up to RM28,500 for 2 years [Fee+Allowance].

+ MASTER

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 45 years upon graduation for Masters Degree.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA of 3.00 and above.
* Duration of study 2 Years / 4 Semester.
* Total Funding : Maximum of RM 12, 000 anually [Fee + Allowance].

+ DOCTORATE PHD

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 50 years upon graduation for Doctorate & PHD.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicants must hold a Masters Degree qualification with CGPA of 3.00 and above.
* Duration of study 3 years / 6 Semester.
* Total Funding : Up to RM55,800 3 years [RM800/Monthly+Fee].

Withdrawal of PPBU Disbursement

  YBR may withdrawal the PPBU if:
* Students deferring their study without first obtaining permission from YBR
* Fail to complete and execute the agreement within the specified period
* Providing false information in the application form
* Fail to remain in the areas of study as specified in the PPBU application
* Fail to graduate from universities / colleges / ILA / ILS within the prescribed period
* Obtain a grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 and below

(PPBU) / Scholarship will be fully withdrawn and students shall be required to make full repayment of PPBU / Scholarship which they have received during the period of their study.

Termination of PPBU Contract

If a student fails to pursue their study YBR will automatically terminate all disbursement.
Students shall be required to make full repayment of the entire amount of the sponsorship which was disbursed during their study period as stipulated in the agreement.

‘A’ Level Course – Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar
The ’A’ Level course runs for 5 terms for those who start their course in January and 6 terms for those who start their course in August. A term is approximately 3 months and there are three schooling terms in a year. Students normally choose 4 subjects from the following: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Economics, Geography, History, English Literature, Art, Accounting and Music. The Sixth Form provides an opportunity for students to prepare for university life by developing skills for independent study.

‘A’ Level Scholarship 2018 Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar

We award scholarships for deserving students to undertake ’A’ level studies at our Kolej. Applicants who wish to be considered for these scholarships should have the following qualifications:
*) A1/A2 grades in SPM or six A grades at IGCSE (if the results are not known at the time of application, applicants should submit copies of their Trial Exam results and Forecast Grades).
*) Have the potential to qualify for Oxford or Cambridge Universities entrance.
*) Possess all-round qualities.

Selection
A short-list will be drawn up within two weeks of receipt of the application deadline. Short-listed candidates will be required to attend an interview with members of the Senior Leadership Team and the Principal. Interviews are expected to be held towards the end of April 2018. The selected candidates will be invited for interview at a time and date chosen by KTJ. Original copies of all relevant certificates and documentation should be produced at this interview. Successful candidates will be notified within a week from the date of interview.

Fees
The scholarship offered only covers a percentage of the tuition fee, ranging from 10% to 100% of RM16,100 per term plus a possible reduced amount on the deposit. Other related fees will need to be paid as normal. A schedule of fees payable is appended below:
Registration Fee: RM 350
Admittance Fee: RM 5,000
Deposit: RM 25,000
Board & Lodging Fee: RM 11,200

* Fees are subject to changes
The Registration and Admittance Fees are only payable once and are not refundable.
The Deposit is payable only once and is refunded upon completion of the course. Should a student leave mid-way through the course, the deposit and fees paid will be forfeited.

Applicant must meet all the below requirements
  • Earned a MINIMUM of 8A (A + or A ONLY, A- NOT considered) in SPM 2017.
  • Obtained a MINIMUM grade of A2 in English 1119 (GCE-O) in SPM 2017. 
  • Age not exceeding 19 years on 1 January 2018.
  • Active in co-curricular and sports activities, have high leadership qualities as well as teamwork.

  • No immediate family has ever received or received any Scholarship Award from PNB.

The Khazanah Watan Scholarship is a prestigious award that offers opportunities for talented and high-achieving Malaysians to pursue Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies at selected leading local universities.


+Deadline

Please note: Scholarship opens on March 16, 2018.

 

+Criteria

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Possess strong leadership skills and active participation in extra-curricular, social or voluntary activities
Applicants must have a consistent and outstanding academic achievement record as follows:Foundation Studies
1. Obtained a minimum of 8As (combination of A+ and A) in the recent SPM examination or at least 8As in the recent IGCSE
2. Obtained A or A+ in the following core subjects: Bahasa Melayu, English, History and Mathematics
3. Not exceeding 18 years of age at the enrolment date for the foundation studies
4. Obtained admission to pursue studies or currently in the first semester of a Foundation Programme at the selected universities in Malaysia, as below:
  • Pusat Asasi Sains, Universiti Malaya
  • Pusat PERMATA Pintar Negara, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
  • International Islamic University Malaysia
  • Universiti Putra Malaysia
  • Multimedia University
  • Universiti Tenaga Nasional
  • International Medical University, KL
  • University of Reading, Malaysia
  • University of Southampton (Malaysia Campus)
  • Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia

Undergraduate (Bachelor’s Degree)
1. Obtained admission to pursue studies (conditional offer can be considered) or currently in the first year of a Bachelor’s Degree programme at any of the Yayasan Khazanah’s approved list of universities.
2. Obtained a minimum of:
3As for STPM; or
“Jayyid Jidan” for STAM; or
3As for GCE A-Level Programme; or
CGPA 3.50 / 4.00 for Pre-university or Diploma or Foundation or Matriculation Programme; or
38 points for International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme
AND a minimum of 3.500 / 4.00 in semester exam for those who are currently in the first year of a Bachelor’s Degree Programme at any of our approved list of universities.
4. Not exceeding 21 years of age as at the enrolment date for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme

Master’s Degree
1. Obtained admission to pursue studies at renowned selected universities in Malaysia (Conditional offer can be considered)
2. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper Division (UK and Australia University) or where there is a point system, obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.50 for Bachelor’s Degree
3. Not exceeding 40 years of age as at the enrolment date for the Master’s degree

Ph.D
1. Obtained admission to pursue studies or currently in the first year of a Doctoral Degree programme at renowned selected universities in Malaysia. (Conditional offer can be considered)
2. Obtained a Master Degree with a distinction or a minimum CGPA 3.50 / 4.00 or ‘A’ grade average and/or excellent examiners’ report if the Master Degree is by research
3. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper Division (UK and Australia University) or where there is a point system, obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.50 for Bachelor’s Degree
4. Not exceeding 40 years of age as at the enrolment date for the Doctorate programme

Full scholarships are offered which include full academic fees, living expenses, accommodation as well as development and training support.

Scholarship details

Overview
The Top Glove Scholarship Fund was established with objective of offering scholarship to qualified students who are pursuing full time degree courses (undergraduate) & (postgraduate ie. Master & PHD studies) at local public universities.
Criteria
Applicant must meet all the below requirements
  • Good academic results in STPM
  • Has gained acceptance into local public universities
  • Active in co-curriculum activities
  • Lack of financial support to pursue tertiary studies
Other terms and conditions
  • The successful applicant must enter into a scholarship agreement with Top Glove Foundation (“the Foundation”).
  • The applicant must not be bonded to any other body or organisation.
  • The successful applicant must not, without the prior written consent of the Foundation, accept any other scholarships or forms of financial aid from other sources whatsoever while he/she is continuing to receive any form of financial aid from the Foundation and/or when his/her scholarship agreement with the Foundation is still in force.
  • Each individual applicant is responsible for all costs incurred in the course of applying for the Scholarship.
  • The Foundation reserves the right to make changes to these Terms and Conditions without prior notice at any time and/or the right to cancel, modify, suspend, delay or withdraw its offer of the Scholarship programme at its sole and absolute discretion and the applicant(s) will be bound by such changes.
  • All decisions of the Foundation in any matter in relation to the Scholarship programme will be final and binding and no appeal, discussion or correspondence will be entertained.
  • Only short-listed applicants will be notified via email and/or phone call for an interview.
  • Successful applicants will be required to serve TOP GLOVE GROUP OF COMPANIES based on the duration of the scholarship for instance if we provide 4 years scholarship, the applicant is required to bond with Top Glove for 4 years or etc upon completion of their studies.
  • If you wish to apply for release before the commencement of the scholarship bond or to terminate the scholarship bond before the stipulated period, you are required to pay back to the TG Foundation double the amount of the total scholarship as awarded to you.

Upon closing of the application window, the scholarship committee will review the applications and shortlist eligible candidates for interviews. There will be one application evaluation period and two stages of interview before the final list of scholarship recipients are announced.
